Howard County General Hospital nurse anesthetists and members of the perioperative services department collected canned food, pasta, snacks, diapers, toilet paper and other household supplies and donated them to HopeWorks and Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center Jan. 25. The donations were made in memory of Wendy Black, a Howard County General Hospital nurse anesthetist who died in an act of domestic violence last year, and coincided with National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Week Jan. 23 to 29.
“We delivered carloads of donations for our community members seeking shelter and safety from domestic violence,” said Marie DeFrancesco-Malviya, nurse anesthetist at Howard County General Hospital. “Wendy loved the Lord. She would be happy to see us ‘pray it forward.’”
Howard County General Hospital has employed certified registered nurse anesthetists since the 1970s. Nurse anesthetists administer anesthesia to patients in the hospital and ambulatory operating rooms, obstetrical department, interventional radiology and interventional cardiology. They also provide airway management in the emergency room and intensive care units.
