While many fans of professional football are getting ready for NFL Championship Sunday:

I am starting to get ready for spring football from the USFL. Their season (reboot) begins in 75 days. Here is a screenshot from their website today: https://www.usfl2.com/

There will be 8 teams in the USFL in the 2022 season:

South Division:

  • Birmingham Stallions
  • Houston Gamblers
  • New Orleans Breakers
  • Tampa Bay Bandits

North Division:

  • Michigan Panthers
  • New Jersey Generals
  • Philadelphia Stars
  • Pittsburgh Maulers

There is very little information about the upcoming season on the USFL website…so I went to a source I do not love using…but at least had some additional details I can share here today:

2022 season details:

  • Planned to be played from April 16, 2022 to June 2022, it will involve eight teams, and will be played in its entirety in Birmingham, Alabama.

  • The league announced that the season would be held in one host city, in a format similar to the 2020 NBA Bubble. Birmingham, Alabama will be the selected host city.

  • The league announced that teams would each play a ten-game schedule, with each team facing divisional opponents twice and non-divisional opponents once. The regular season is scheduled to run from April 16th to mid-June 2022. The champion and runner-up of each division will qualify for the playoffs, which will consist of a semifinal and championship round played in the beginning July. It is planned that games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays, with some “special broadcasts” planned for Fridays and Mondays.

  • It was revealed on January 25, 2022 that the first game of the 2022 USFL season would take place on April 16, 2022 with the Birmingham Stallions playing the New Jersey Generals at Protective Stadium at 7:30 ET with Fox and NBC broadcasting the game

Jeff Fisher was recently announced as the head coach for Michigan Panthers. So as a Tennessee Titans fan I will be cheering on the Panthers.

Here is a recent tweet about all of the coaches this upcoming season:

This is a league I will be sure to watch this spring.

Just a reminder…the XFL season is still a ways off…but it is also something I am looking forward to watching in the future.

Tweeted on January 3, 2022:

I believe the more football we get the better.
