Announced via Press Release on January 13th:

Emerson Community Association announced that it has won a national competition of Community, Condominium, and Homeowner Association communities managed by Associa, the largest community management company in North America.

The ASSOCIA GREEN AWARD is being presented to Emerson in recognition of achievements in hosting environmentally friendly community events and promoting green living in the Emerson community through seven categories: green building, energy efficiency, efficient water use, trees and green space, recycling and waste reduction, education and innovation.

Emerson Community Association has undertaken many measures to meet its Environmental and Wildlife stewardship vision in ways that protects and enhances Emerson’s desirability and property values; transitioning to native, non-invasive plants for landscaping; installing Little Free Library Enchanted Reading Pollinator Gardens in four parks complete with plant-identification signage, investing in forest restoration and improvements to 17 Storm Water Management Ponds; storm-drain stenciling reminding of our relationship to the watershed; and working with local schools and residents to develop Green Field Trips into Preservation areas, among other efforts. Emerson Environment & Habitat Protection Initiative Program leader JEAN SILVER-ISENSTADT said, “Emerson is developing a deeper care-taking approach to the land we steward, where beauty is more than skin deep, but reflects the health of the whole.”

Emerson Community Association Board President RICHARD FLINN said, “Our neighbors chose to live in Emerson in part because of the high academic standards of nearby Howard County public and private schools, and the natural relaxed setting of Emerson. Our community every day expresses its values of embracing diversity and inclusion, education & lifelong learning, protecting our environment & wildlife habitats, and bringing neighbors together with fun events.”
