HCPSS provides information about a new TikTok challenge encouraging students to make school shooting threats to schools

Reported by the Howard County Public School System on December 16th:

Tik Tok Challenge School Shooting Threats

The following statement was issued to Howard County Public School System staff, students, families and community on Dec. 16, 2021:

HCPSS is aware of a new TikTok challenge encouraging students to make school shooting threats to schools. Howard County Police are aware and, at this point, there are no credible threats. However, even hoax threats create fear and cause disruption to the school community.

All students must understand that the behaviors encouraged by these challenges are not just morally and ethically wrong, but violate the law and the HCPSS Student Code of Conduct and will have serious results. HCPSS does not tolerate threats of any kind and will pursue disciplinary actions and legal consequences, as appropriate.

Please stress to your children that choices they make now can carry long-standing consequences that will impact plans for college, career and other goals.
