Howard County Councilmember Opel Jones files to run for reelection in 2022

On November 24th Howard County Councilmember Opel Jones filed to run for reelection to the Howard County Council in District 2. To be honest I do not think this filing is a surprise to anyone.

Here is the filing on November 24th:

In the 2018 General Election Opel Jones won with over 69% of the vote in District 2:

I have not seen any type of announcement about this filing from Councilmember Jones on social media or via press release.

Councilmember Jones is scheduled to be a guest on the Elevate Maryland Podcast on November 29th so maybe he is waiting until then to make an announcement.

The filing deadline is February 22, 2022, so there is a lot of time for other candidates to get into this race. I will continue to keep an eye out for new candidate filings.

  1. Isn’t participating in Elevate Maryland a conflict of interest since the co-host of the podcast is a developer attorney and Councilmember Jones will be Council Chair and a member of the Zoning Board?
