On November 24th Howard County Councilmember Opel Jones filed to run for reelection to the Howard County Council in District 2. To be honest I do not think this filing is a surprise to anyone.
Here is the filing on November 24th:

In the 2018 General Election Opel Jones won with over 69% of the vote in District 2:
I have not seen any type of announcement about this filing from Councilmember Jones on social media or via press release.
Councilmember Jones is scheduled to be a guest on the Elevate Maryland Podcast on November 29th so maybe he is waiting until then to make an announcement.
The filing deadline is February 22, 2022, so there is a lot of time for other candidates to get into this race. I will continue to keep an eye out for new candidate filings.
Isn’t participating in Elevate Maryland a conflict of interest since the co-host of the podcast is a developer attorney and Councilmember Jones will be Council Chair and a member of the Zoning Board?
