Howard County Education Association plans to protest We The People 2 event at HomeSlyce Pizza in Columbia on November 9th

Latest update: HomeSlyce Pizza Bar in Columbia cancels controversial We The People 2 event on November 9th

Article update November 4th at 1:16pm: The link below to the Action Network event sponsored by Howard County Education Association is no longer working. I do not yet know what that means but will check on it. – Scott E

I have seen this event publicized on social media for a little while now:

Do Parent Voices Matter?

A Forum on parents’ voice, critical race theory, and sexual explicit materials in public schools.

Here is the flyer:

Here is the webpage for the event:

So this evening I came across this Action Network event sponsored by the Howard County Education Association (for those that do not know this is the Union for the Teachers in Howard County)

Teach the Truth in Howard County

Instead of focusing on the real issues facing our schools (a deepening staffing crisis, student mental health supports, and educator workload, just to name a few) a vocal group of anti-public education, anti-BLM activists called “We the People 2” have organized a forum on “Parents’ Voice, Critical Race Theory, and Sexually Explicit Materials in Public Schools” in Columbia, MD.

This group is a small, but vocal minority of individuals who oppose teaching the true history of racism in schools under any circumstances. We cannot allow them to gain a foothold in Howard County to promote their agenda.

WHEN: Tuesday, November 9 at 7:00p (plan to arrive early)
WHERE: 9400 Snowden River Pkwy., Columbia, MD 21045 (Outside of HomeSlyce Pizza)
BRING: Homemade signs, warm clothing
RSVP on this page and share with your networks

Nothing about all of this sounds good and the potential for confrontation is obvious.

I wonder if the Howard County Police Department is aware of this event, this protest, and has any plans on attending to ensure all goes well.

Also…you now have to wonder about the other businesses in that very small shopping center and how they will be affected by a protest that evening:

This is all just a bit sad to see play out…even before it happens.

I reached out to a representative of We The People 2 as well as to the President of the HCEA (Colleen Morris) to get additional information or comments for this article. I have not heard back yet from anyone but if I do I will update you here on this article (or if need be in a new article).

I may also reach out to HCPD tomorrow just in case they have plans to monitor the situation in Columbia on the 9th.

  1. So we’ll end up with a small group of protesters with an even smaller group of attendees. Then the even smaller group of “progressive” HoCo social media folks will use the event to echo amongst themselves how horrible Howard County is. Meanwhile, the rest of us go on with our lives.

    Enjoy the cold evening!

  2. And the protest should happen. Protesters have been encouraged not to boycott Home Slyce… instead, they have been asked to buy food there. As for the four person panel…after researching each of them…I would rather watch a dog chase its tail than listen to misinformation from the far right.

  3. Good for parents in speaking out against socialist indoctrination of our children. Teacher’s uniion: please stay home and drink your martinis with you gucci high heels and designer dresses.

  4. Great to hear that people are speaking out against divisive race politics and other inappropriate content in our schools’ curriculum. I look forward to attending the relocated event. Hopefully those who would protest against concerned parents will decide to stay away after the recent election results in Virginia and elsewhere.

  5. Amazing how any alternative opinions are immediately branded as extremist, anti-public education and racist. So in today’s world if one even questions what’s being taught to our children in OUR schools that WE PAY FOR, it should be immediately protested and police should be notified. These people know no bounds and think Virginia’s election turned out against them because the Biden administration hasn’t passed enough stimulus. You can’t make this stuff up.

You think teaching pedophilia in schools is ok? It’s a big deal for you to support pedophilia culture.

The group has nothing to do with teaching the “true” history of racism. It’s about teachers and the administration being racist against their students in the name of “equity”.
