Article update November 4th at 1:16pm: The link below to the Action Network event sponsored by Howard County Education Association is no longer working. I do not yet know what that means but will check on it. – Scott E
I have seen this event publicized on social media for a little while now:
Do Parent Voices Matter?
A Forum on parents’ voice, critical race theory, and sexual explicit materials in public schools.
Here is the flyer:
Here is the webpage for the event:
So this evening I came across this Action Network event sponsored by the Howard County Education Association (for those that do not know this is the Union for the Teachers in Howard County)
Teach the Truth in Howard County
Instead of focusing on the real issues facing our schools (a deepening staffing crisis, student mental health supports, and educator workload, just to name a few) a vocal group of anti-public education, anti-BLM activists called “We the People 2” have organized a forum on “Parents’ Voice, Critical Race Theory, and Sexually Explicit Materials in Public Schools” in Columbia, MD.
This group is a small, but vocal minority of individuals who oppose teaching the true history of racism in schools under any circumstances. We cannot allow them to gain a foothold in Howard County to promote their agenda.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 9 at 7:00p (plan to arrive early)
WHERE: 9400 Snowden River Pkwy., Columbia, MD 21045 (Outside of HomeSlyce Pizza)
BRING: Homemade signs, warm clothing
RSVP on this page and share with your networks

Nothing about all of this sounds good and the potential for confrontation is obvious.
I wonder if the Howard County Police Department is aware of this event, this protest, and has any plans on attending to ensure all goes well.
Also…you now have to wonder about the other businesses in that very small shopping center and how they will be affected by a protest that evening:
This is all just a bit sad to see play out…even before it happens.
I reached out to a representative of We The People 2 as well as to the President of the HCEA (Colleen Morris) to get additional information or comments for this article. I have not heard back yet from anyone but if I do I will update you here on this article (or if need be in a new article).
I may also reach out to HCPD tomorrow just in case they have plans to monitor the situation in Columbia on the 9th.
