Howard County police have charged a suspect with two counts each of first-degree assault and second-degree assault against a law enforcement officer in an incident on Aug. 16 in Jessup that resulted in a police shooting.

Donte Bernard Shaw, 31, of East Capitol Street in Washington, D.C., suffered a non-life-threatening wound and was treated and released from University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. He was taken into custody and is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.

Police learned that a group of suspects wanted on open arrest warrants from other jurisdictions had stolen a large quantity of power tools and other merchandise from Lowe’s in Elkridge. At around 3 p.m., officers located the suspects in two vehicles and followed them to Life Storage in the 8200 block of Washington Boulevard in Jessup, where they saw the suspects with the stolen goods.

Taquan Neal, 32, of Brooks Drive in District Heights, and Percy Brown, 26, of Walker Mill Road in Capitol Heights were each charged with weapon violations and theft. George Shaw, 48, of Dawn Lane in Temple Hills, was charged with theft.
