Neighbor Ride Launches Vehicle Donation Program
Donations Provide Funds that Give the Gift of Independence to Local Seniors
Neighbor Ride, a Maryland nonprofit, has launched a Vehicle Donation Program that helps fund new and existing programs serving older adults in Howard County. These programs include volunteer-driven transportation for medical appointments, shopping, social outings, wellness activities and other needs, as well as the delivery of food and durable medical equipment to vulnerable, homebound individuals in partnership with the Howard County Foodbank, the Howard County Office on Aging & Independence, and the Loan Closet of Howard County. Donors benefit by being able to reduce their taxable income when taxes are itemized. They also avoid the costs associated with selling a car – no need to pay for advertising, no loss of privacy and possible security risk, and no need to pay for vehicle registration, insurance, and repairs to keep a car in running condition while waiting for a buyer. Neighbor Ride enhances the health and quality of life for Howard County’s seniors by providing the comfort and peace of mind of affordable, passenger-focused transportation services through a reliable, volunteer-based system. The organization provides more than 17,000 trips for medical appointments, social outings, shopping, educational pursuits, and wellness activities each year. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Neighbor Ride also serves vulnerable individuals and families in our community by delivering meals, groceries, and durable medical equipment in partnership with the Howard County Food Bank, the Howard County Office on Aging & Independence, and the Loan Closet of Howard County.
