Mt. Hebron’s JV baseball got what surely was the pitching performance of the year from sophomore Jacob Berger in route to a win over visiting powerhouse Glenelg. In his third start of the season, Berger struck out 17 Gladiator hitters, scattered 2 hits, and issued only 1 free pass. Berger helped his own cause with 3 hits and 2 RBIs, while Viking teammates Jake Friedman (2), Vinnie Falcone, Zac Ertel, Chris Park, and Sandesh Lingam also drove in runs, scoring in 5 of the 6 home at bats.
With plenty of run support and facing just 3 batters over the minimum, Berger worked quickly, kept the ball low and on the corners, and threw 66 of 96 pitches for strikes while catcher Austin Kehres took advantage of Berger’s command of a three-pitch arsenal to keep Glenelg’s hitters off balance all afternoon.
Berger has started three games in the shortened season, is 2-1 with a total of 31 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched.
Congratulations to Jacob and the entire Mt. Hebron JV team on the big win.
