Statement on Resignation of Fire/EMS Director

Announced on Monday, May 24, 2021 Carroll County Fire/EMS Direct Robert McCoy, Jr. resigned his position with Carroll County Government, effective immediately.

We thank Mr. McCoy for his work to date on the development of newly establishedDepartment of Fire and Emergency Medical Services and wish him well on his future endeavors.

The new department is critical to the development of the combination fire service in the county. As this is an important issue moving forward, internal staff will continue to investigate the best path as an extensive search for a new director begins.

The Carroll County Board of County Commissioners announced Robert McCoy as the first Carroll County Director of Fire and Emergency Medical Services on July 1, 2020. Noted in that announcement:

“Mr. McCoy brings 37 years of fire service experience, 20 years in senior management and direct experience establishing a regional combination fire department.  In his new position, Director McCoy will be charged with the overall direction, administration and evaluation of the newly established Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and will plan, develop, implement and evaluate a county-wide combination fire and EMS system, policies and procedures.”

I know I am the new guy here in Carroll County but this announcement seems a bit…well…odd. Generally you do not see Directors of county departments leave like this…unless I have missed something in the past (which is possible).

I will keep an eye out for additional information on this situation.
