After coming off their first loss of the season, the Mount Hebron Vikings varsity football team was looking to bounce back, but the Marriotts Ridge Mustangs thought otherwise. Marriott Ridge was coming off their home opener shutout victory against Centennial. The Mustangs defense ended up producing their second straight shutout with the offense putting up another 35 points.

In the first quarter Marriotts Ridge came out swinging scoring on their first offensive possession as well as an interception returned for a touchdown by Cole Tran. In addition to the pick six, Jack Baxter would show up and put on a show with a tackle for loss on the first play and then again later in the second half. With an excellent defense often comes an excellent offense, and the Marriotts Ridge Mustangs were just that. With four offensive scores, all of them coming on the ground. Similar to last week, Marriott Ridge was perfect on PAT’s, they also had a successful blocked punt as a cherry on top to the stellar special teams performance.

Even though Mount Hebron couldn’t get moving on the offensive side of the ball, they were able to make some strong plays on the defensive side. For most of the game they were very strong and consistent in one on one, man coverage. This ended up causing some frustration for the Marriotts Ridge passing attempts. They were also able to apply some rather strong pressure on the pocket as well. Mount Hebron combined for two tackles for a loss and two sacks. The Vikings also held up strong in the red zone forcing the offense to scramble and not be able to make the throws they wanted.

The Mustangs remain undefeated on the season, and have not given up any points yet either. Marriott Ridge will play again on Thursday April 1 at Oakland Mills, right before the start of the Howard County Spring break.
