On the verge of defeat, the Oakland Mills Scorpions edged out a victory over the Mt Hebron Vikings, winning the game in the last thirty-four seconds of play. The game got off to a slow start – it was a defense heavy performance for both teams through the first half, which ended scoreless. But that changed a minute into the third quarter, when the Viking’s Zion Holmes scored a touchdown. Followed by a successful field goal, the Vikings took a 7-0 lead. Later that quarter, the Scorpion’s RB Antione Holmes scored for Oakland Mills; however, the Scorpions failed on the extra point, leaving the Vikings with a narrow lead, 7-6. In the fourth quarter, Viking’s Junior QB Cooper Baer scored a touchdown on a QB sneak. After a successful extra point conversion, the Vikings led 14-6. But the Scorpions rallied in the final nine minutes of play, and led by RB Antoine Holmes, scored twelve unanswered points to win. Holmes put in a fantastic performance, scoring two more touchdowns, including the winning touchdown with thirty-four seconds left in the game. Despite getting the ball back in the closing moments of play, the Vikings were unable to recover.

The Scorpions and Vikings each have one win and one loss on the season. Oakland Mills next meets the Centennial Eagles and the Vikings face the Marriotts Ridge Mustangs on Friday, March 26, 2021.
