Howard County Executive Calvin Ball was recognized this week on the Daily Record’s inaugural Power 100 list. The Power 100 List identifies leaders across Maryland who are shaping our businesses, governments, non-profits, law firms, and other critical institutions.
“Maryland is home to so many incredible leaders who, especially over the past year, have worked to make our community better,” said Ball. “It is an honor to be recognized by The Daily Record on this list among so many colleagues and friends who have my great admiration and respect and speaks to the valued work of our County employees and their dedication to our residents and businesses.”
During the last year County Executive Ball has been focused on response and recovery to the COVID-19 pandemic, but also on moving Howard County forward with smart, sustainable, and pragmatic policies and solutions. The County Executive’s efforts have led to one of the lowest unemployment rates in the State, at 4.5%, as the country continues to recover from the pandemic and innovative policies including implementing serology testing for all County employees. Ball has also focused heavily on mental health and wellness as well as the negative impacts on families, especially young people, throughout this public health crisis. In his StayCOVIDSafe campaign this winter, he encouraged Howard County residents to check in on one another and reach out to others for support and resources.
“In essence they are playing an outsized role in the culture, lifestyle, civic conversation, and economic fortunes of Maryland,” noted The Daily Record editor Thomas Baden Jr. “What this list reveals is the rich fabric of leadership across the breadth of our state, the energy, drive and wisdom that the times demand.”
