Here is a weekly look at the number of new COVID-19 cases in Maryland, Howard County and Carroll County in 2021. I think this can give some additional perspective on the daily numbers most entities report.

New COVID-19 cases in Howard County:

Here is a look at the weekly data of new COVID-19 cases in Howard County in 2020:

New COVID-19 cases in Carroll County:

Notes:

  • The number of new cases over a week (as I am tracking it from Sunday - Saturday) are the lowest we have seen since early November 2020 (both at the state level and in Howard County)
  • I only began tracking the Carroll County data in my Google Spreadsheets in 2021 (that is why I do not have the history for that county in 2020)
  • The snow days seen in Maryland in early February may account for some of the reduction in the number of new cases over the past couple of weeks.

I think it is wonderful to see the number of new cases drop at this rate in 2021. I am hoping this trend continues in the coming weeks.

Here is the latest update from Governor Hogan about COVID-19 vaccine distribution:

Maryland providers have now administered 857,008 COVID-19 vaccines, and 83.1% of all first doses received from the federal government have been given. The state is averaging a record-high 26,444 shots per day.

I plan to continue the weekly reporting by choosing one metric per week for Maryland, Howard County and Carroll County. Hopefully you find this look at the data useful.

Note: Daily COVID-19 updates going forward will only happen when something significant needs to be reported during the week. Weekly weekend charts will continue to happen on Saturday or Sunday and will be specific to new data points I am developing in 2021. Monthly charts will happen around the 1st of each month (or as quickly as I can given my schedule).
