WINTER WEATHER OPERATIONS UPDATE: Several bands of snow came through the county overnight, leaving most roadways snow covered early this morning, but passable. A light to moderate snow is currently falling across the county and air temperatures are around 30 degrees countywide. Current forecasts indicate temperatures will increase to above freezing later today, with high temperatures sitting in the mid-30’s for a few hours. Tonight, overnight temperatures are forecasted to be around 30 degrees.
Our Bureau of Highways continues to plow and salt County maintained roadways. The Bureau’s de-icing material is working well and bringing roadways to bare pavement; however, some icy spots, especially on local roads with less traffic and on bridges, overpasses, ramps and parking lots, are still possible. Please take your time on your commute today and be sure to give yourself a little extra time to get where you are going. Also, be sure to clean off your car before traveling. You can track the progress of our snow removal equipment via the County’s Snow Plow Tracker at hocosnowplowtracker.org.
Lastly, please keep in mind, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is responsible for all the work and maintenance on interstate highways and roads that have a route number (such as US 40, US 29, MD 32, MD 175, etc.). For an intersection that includes a state and county road, the state takes precedence and has jurisdiction. For information about SHA roads and operations, please visit https://roads.maryland.gov/.
