I wrote “Confusing COVID-19 vaccination data between what is reported by the state, Howard County and Carroll County” on January 19th. The COVID-19 vaccination data being talked about by the state and the local jurisdictions did not match and that was a concern to me.

Since that article was published I have reached out to to the state and the counties Health Departments to get additional information. Here is what I received back to date:

Carroll County:

I am reaching out in response to your call. I was in touch with Lisa from Howard as well as Charlie Gischlar. I understand your question was about the amount of vaccine received by each county. I believe that the vaccine numbers from MDH do include vaccine for our hospital and our long-term care facilities through CVS and Walgreens as well as vaccine allocated to the Health Dept.

We hope to have county-specific vaccination data on our website by the end of this week. https://cchd.maryland.gov/covid-19-vaccination/

Howard County:

I was able to confirm that the numbers on the Maryland Dashboard for Howard County not only include the number of vaccine that is delivered to and by the Health Department, but given to and administered by Howard County General and CVS/Walgreens (to our nursing homes and assisted living facilities). The Howard County dashboard only reflects the number of vaccines delivered to and administered by us at the Health Department. I hope that helps.

The State did not provide specific information to my question.

What does this mean for you and me? Well, if you are looking for an accurate number of people in a county that have been vaccinated…the state number is the accurate number to watch. The County numbers are only related to what the local Health Departments are doing and not a full and accurate number of people in a county vaccinated.

I know Howard County uses some data from the state on their dashboard…maybe they will add this information in the near future to provide a full and complete picture of the vaccination status in Howard County.

For Carroll County…I am just hoping to see some COVID-19 vaccination data on their page in the near future.

I will be watching the data but will be reporting the state data going forward as that is a more complete picture for Howard and Carroll counties.

Here are important links with data on Coronavirus (COVID-19) numbers I use regularly:

Note: Daily COVID-19 updates going forward will only happen when something significant needs to be reported during the week. Weekly weekend charts will continue to happen on Saturday or Sunday (depending on my schedule and the timing of the release of the information) starting again in February 2021. Monthly charts will happen around the 1st of each month.

  1. Thank you for your clarification.
So let me spell what I understand:
The numbers reported by Howard County are a sub set of the numbers reported by the State. Hence we should look at the State numbers to have the complete and true picture of how many Howard County people have received the vaccine, irrelevant of the venue.
    Correct?
    Respectfully
    Dan
