UPDATE: Police investigating fatal collision involving six vehicles

Howard County police are investigating a fatal collision involving six vehicles on Route 32 in Dayton.

Officers were called to Route 32 about a mile north of Linden Church Road at approximately 2:47 p.m. Jan. 11 for a report of a collision involving multiple vehicles.

Through preliminary investigation, police learned a Ford F550 driven by Samuel Adam Moore, 35, of Sykesville was traveling northbound on Route 32 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the double yellow line and struck a Kenworth dump truck traveling southbound. The dump truck crossed into northbound traffic and struck the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado causing the Chevy to overturn.

The F550 continued northbound in the southbound lane striking a Toyota Camry head on. The driver of the Camry, Arshad Mehmood Malik, 50, of Cooksville, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Fatima Malik, 44, also of Cooksville, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries. She is currently listed in critical condition.

A Jeep Liberty traveling behind the Camry also struck the F550 and the Camry. Additionally, a Toyota Highlander was struck by one of the other involved vehicles with minor damage.

The driver of the dump truck, Edwar Giron Montoya, 36, of Essex, was transported to Howard County General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. None of the other drivers or passengers were seriously injured.

Route 32 was closed at Burntwoods Road for approximately six hours. The investigation is ongoing.
