Article Update at 4:00pm on December 12th: Well dang the amount has gone up since this morning when I wrote the article:

  • Watching a potential winter storm. Periods of snow. High 33F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 8 to 12 inches.
  • Watching a potential winter storm. Snow in the evening will give way to lingering snow showers overnight. Low 26F. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80%. 3 to 5 inches of snow expected.

Snow is in the forecast for Howard County next week. According to Weather.com on Wednesday December 16th (for Columbia):

  • Watching a potential winter storm. Snow likely. High 33F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 5 to 8 inches.
  • Watching a potential winter storm. Snow in the evening will transition to snow showers overnight. Low 26F. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 70%. 5 to 8 inches of snow expected.

This is a big time bummer (for me). I have never been a big fan of snow so the first expected snow event of the season is not something I am looking forward to this year.

Also for kids in school…this might be kind of a bummer…as they might not even get a snow day from school:  Virtual instruction has changed the way the Howard County Public School System will manage inclement weather days“For the 2020-2021 school year, while in virtual, small groups or hybrid instructional models, HCPSS will transition to fully virtual instruction during inclement weather days.”

I am hoping that all the weather people are wrong and we get next to nothing on Wednesday. One can hope.

Get to the stores this weekend to pick up your toilet paper, milk and other essential supplies. It might be gone by Tuesday afternoon.

  1. Suggest you use the weather report from Capital Weather Gang. They are generally more accurate. Weather.Com picks the worst possibility from the NWS and runs with it even if a low percentage. CWG is predicting some snow, but not as much.
