I posted the following last night on Scott E’s Blog Facebook page and on a couple of Facebook groups:

Idea for a HCPSS School Reopening Testimony for Students

Hi all, I have seen posts here and in other groups about how parents can get their kids voices heard in regards to the reopening of schools discussion. BOE meetings do not really give a great opportunity for students to have their voices heard as they limit the number of testimonies for each meeting.

My idea was to host and moderate a Zoom session for students to have the ability to have 3 minutes to give their thoughts on schools reopening. This is something we could live stream, record to send to the Board of Education members as testimony on this subject.

I am happy to host the session (via Scott E’s Blog Zoom account ) and live stream it on my social media channels as well as send it in to the board (for those board members that may not see it live). I would also do an article on the blog site with the video and my thoughts on the subject.

That was my idea…if there is enough interest I can get it setup soon. I was thinking Thursday the 17th at 6:30pm (but that date and time is not set in stone). I thought it would be good to do the session before the next BOE meeting (on December 22nd).

I would love to hear your feedback on the idea and interest parents think their students would have in participating.

I posted the following this morning:

Sounds like there is interest in this event…so I set it up. Any student wishing to provide input on reopening (for or against) is welcome to sign up, attend and provide testimony that I will send over the our Board of Education. My hope is that some of those board members will tune in to the event online.

Parents…feel free to assist your kids with registering and attending this event.

If I get more registrations than possible to handle in this session I will be sure to setup a second event for students to provide input.

You are invited to a Zoom meeting.

When: Dec 17, 2020 06:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Register in advance for this meeting:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

UPDATE December 15th: A local high school student informed me that he is not able to make the session scheduled for Thursday evening and took the initiative to record his testimony on his phone and emailed it to me. I thought that was great.

If this works better for other students (or parents helping students) wishing to provide input on this topic feel free to email the video testimony to me at

Just remember to keep the testimony to 3 minutes.

If students wish to testify at the session in person make sure they register here:

Here is the event on Facebook for those that need reminders (like I do):
