When will we get the results of the election?
Results from mail-in ballots, early voting and election day will begin coming in on election night. Polls close at 8:00pm so I would expect some results to begin coming in within an hour after the polls close and hopefully we get all of the results (up to that point) later in the evening. We will not know the final results for a while. Here is the mail-in ballot canvas schedule after election day:
- Thursday November 5, 2020 - Opening/Scanning of Mail-In Ballots - Lake Elkhorn Gymnasium & Board of Elections Office
- Sunday November 8, 2020 - Opening/Scanning of Mail-In Ballots - Lake Elkhorn Gymnasium & Board of Elections Office
- Thursday November 12, 2020 @ 9:00 AM - Provisional Canvass & Opening/Scanning of Mail-In Ballots - Lake Elkhorn Gymnasium & Board of Elections Office
- Friday November 13, 2020 - Opening/Scanning of Mail-In Ballots - Lake Elkhorn Gymnasium & Board of Elections Office
Dates are subject to change at any time due to workload and/or availability of resources. Please monitor this website for up-to-date information on canvassing of ballots in Howard County
Local races to watch:
The Board of Education races and Judge of the Circuit Court race are the ones I will be watching closely (obviously the national races as well…but I am talking local stuff in this post).
Two races we can probably call right now: Howard County Board of Education races in District 2 and District 3. I do not expect either of those races to be close at the end of the day tomorrow.
Three Board of Education races (District 1, District 4 and District 5) will be interesting to see how they play out. I have guesses for each race but will keep that close hold for now.
The race for Judge of the Circuit Court in Howard County should be interesting as well. I think it has the possibility to be very close.
It is possible that all four of those races may not be decided on election night (depending on how close each race is that evening). I can not recommend highly enough that you get out and vote (either today during the final day of early voting or tomorrow).
Howard County is leading the way with voter turnout (by % of eligible voters)…so keep it up!!!

I will be posting updates on Scott E’s Blog Facebook page as I get time Tuesday night when the results come it. I will do a recap on the blog on Wednesday morning of where things stand at that time and what to watch for in the coming days after the election.
