Today (October 8th) the Maryland Department of Health reports 403 beds in use (ICU and Acute Hospital Beds for COVID-19, Currently in Use) across Maryland due to COVID-19. Here is the latest chart on the dashboard:

The last time this number was above 400 beds in use was back on August 28th with the number of beds in use due to COVID-19 was 412:

Since October 4th Maryland has seen a pretty significant increase in beds in use due to COVID-19:

  • October 4th: 320
  • October 5th: 338 (+18)
  • October 6th: 360 (+22)
  • October 7th: 391 (+31)
  • October 8th: 403 (+12)

I hope we start to see these numbers begin to drop back down again in the near future.

Here is a site to watch for information on Maryland cases: https://phpa.health.maryland.gov/Pages/Novel-coronavirus.aspx

Here is the site to keep an eye on in Howard County for updates: https://www.howardcountymd.gov/Departments/Health/MM-Alerts-and-Recalls

This is a good site to keep up to date with the latest coronavirus updates worldwide:  (Worldometer) https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ or (Johns Hopkins) https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html.

I have a Google spreadsheet for tracking some of the daily Maryland and Howard County numbers and my weekly numbers:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OVZO0oIaEC__KXZ9LwtnhawO1NhdqE78VJ9Hd5LCQ0k/edit?usp=sharing

Note: Daily COVID-19 updates going forward will only happen when something significant needs to be reported during the week. Weekly weekend charts will continue to happen on Saturday or Sunday (depending on my schedule and the timing of the release of the information).
