This has been another week of interesting data related to Coronavirus (COVID-19) here in Howard County and in Maryland. Below are the weekly tracking charts I have been working on for some time now and some comments on the data this week. If interested in the data behind the charts I have this handy Google Sheet with the specifics of the data noted on the graphs in this article.

Here is my quick overall summary: Most numbers were a little lower again this past week. We might be at a point where we can call this a trend now. My favorite numbers are the “% positive of people” hitting an all time low since I started my charts (see below).

Here is the weekly tracking charts looking at the total number of reported cases in Maryland and Howard County:

Note – Back to back weeks of lower number of new cases at the state level. Three consecutive weeks of lowers numbers of new cases in the county. You have to like it when the numbers are trending in this direction.

Here are the weekly tracking charts of the number of deaths in Maryland and in Howard County (I still believe that this should be a critical metric to watch closely going forward):

Note – The number of deaths due to COVID-19 seems to be somewhat consistent. The uptick at the county level this week is a little concerning and something to watch but to be honest it has ranged between 3 and 8 per week since mid May.

Here is the weekly tracking chart of hospitalizations (“ever hospitalized”) in Maryland:

Note – Hospitalizations is another set of numbers that seems in a holding pattern over the past five weeks. The hope is to see this number start go decline in the near future.

Here is the weekly tracking numbers for new ICU and Acute Hospital Beds for COVID-19, Currently in Use:

Note – this tracking has been noted as critical for Maryland. It is good to see another week of decreases in bed usage at the state level.

Howard County numbers remain at a really low level (only 11 beds in use due to COVID-19 today).

Here is the weekly tracking of number of people tested weekly across the state (looking at positive cases and people testing negative):

Note – Testing (as I am tracking it by persons testing positive and persons testing negative) hit an all time high this past week. Also the number of people testing positive hit an all time low this week. These are the types of numbers we all want to see in the tracking data of this virus.

I will continue to track and report this data the best I can…and I hope you find the weekly data even more informative than the daily reported data from various entities (including me).

Note: Daily COVID-19 updates going forward will happen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (unless something significant needs to be reported on the other days) during the week. Weekly weekend charts will continue to happen when there are significant items to review.
