Maryland Department of Health reports 2,983 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Howard County and 76,371 cases in Maryland on July 17th.
Tomorrow I plan to have an updated Weekly COVID-19 Chart article about the numbers here in Howard County and in Maryland. Here are some highlights of what I expect to report via the weekly charts:
- Total number of new cases in Maryland rises for the third consecutive week.
- Total number of people “ever hospitalized” in Maryland rises for the third consecutive week.
- Highest ever number of “people tested” in Maryland in a week happened this past week.
- Total number of beds in use (Acute and ICU) in Maryland rises for the first time in nine weeks.
- Number of confirmed deaths continues to drop each week
There may be some other interesting stats…especially when it comes to the numbers here in Howard County. Be sure to check back on the blog tomorrow for that report.

Here is the site to keep an eye on in Howard County for updates: https://www.howardcountymd.gov/Departments/Health/MM-Alerts-and-Recalls
This is a good site to keep up to date with the latest coronavirus updates worldwide: (Worldometer) https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ or (Johns Hopkins) https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html.
A local blog reader has put together this really great and informative Google spreadsheet with some great data. Be sure to give it a look daily: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19a2ACAQVz_Vi2UIcD-byZXKttTmUd8js6-kd3qLO-Ac/edit#gid=280098391. Note – it looks like the county data stopped updating in the spreadsheet on June 21st but there is still good historical state data that remains up to date.

Note: Daily COVID-19 updates going forward will happen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (unless something significant needs to be reported on the other days) during the week. Weekly weekend charts are on hold unless a spike in numbers are noted in the future in Howard County or Maryland.
