It has been a while since my last weekly Howard County and Maryland COVID-19 chart updates (June 20th) but thought there were some numbers worth reporting this weekend.
Here is the weekly tracking chart looking at the total number of reported cases in Maryland and Howard County:
Note – Maryland has seen the number of new cases increase for the second week in a row. Now some of this can be due to increases in testing but this is something I am watching closely now.
Here are the weekly tracking charts of the number of deaths in Maryland and in Howard County (I still believe that this should be a critical metric to watch closely going forward):
Note – the number of deaths over a week due to COVID-19 continues to trend down which is a wonderful thing to see and hopefully those numbers continue to track down.
Here is the weekly tracking chart of hospitalizations (“ever hospitalized”) in Maryland:
Note – like the number of cases has trended up over the past two weeks so has the number of people “ever hospitalized”. This is another trend to watch closely going forward.
Here is the weekly tracking numbers for new ICU and Acute Hospital Beds for COVID-19, Currently in Use:
Note – this tracking has been noted as critical for Maryland and it is good to see these numbers drop week in and week out over the past nine weeks across the state and over the past four weeks in Howard County.
Here is the weekly tracking of number of people tested weekly across the state:
Note – over the past week we saw the “Total people Tested (confirmed + negative tests)” percentage go over 5% positive rate for the first time in a while. Testing amount has been pretty consistent over the past seven weeks so watching the % positive is something to watch.
Overall the numbers in Maryland are significantly better than many other states but the slight up tick on some of the charts above is something to watch.

A local blog reader has put together this really great and informative Google spreadsheet with some great data. Be sure to give it a look daily: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19a2ACAQVz_Vi2UIcD-byZXKttTmUd8js6-kd3qLO-Ac/edit#gid=280098391. Note – it looks like the county data stopped updating in the spreadsheet on June 21st but there is still good historical state data that remains up to date.
Note: Daily COVID-19 updates going forward will happen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (unless something significant needs to be reported on the other days) during the week. Weekly weekend charts are on hold unless a spike in numbers are noted in the future in Howard County or Maryland.
