Yesterday Maryland Department of Health reported 2,220 confirmed cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Howard County and today (June 11th) the Maryland Department of Health reports 2,311 cases of COVID-19 in Howard County. That is a one day jump of 91 new cases noted in Howard County. This is the largest one day spike in new cases Howard County has experienced since the start of the reporting of this virus (previous high was 71 new cases in one day reported back on April 27th).
This can possible be explained by the increase of testing happening in Maryland and in Howard County.
Many people may not be watching new cases being reported any longer…I still think it matters. I am not going to freak out over the one day spike but it is something to continue to monitor.
It is interesting that the numbers reported by Howard County Health Department are VERY different today:
It is not odd that the numbers do not match (they rarely do) but it is odd that they are this far off today.
If you want to see the history of new cases day by day reported by the state…be sure to view this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19a2ACAQVz_Vi2UIcD-byZXKttTmUd8js6-kd3qLO-Ac/edit#gid=280098391 and click on the Howard County tab in the spreadsheet.

Howard County didn’t put numbers up on their site yesterday (not the first time they’ve missed an update) and it’s unclear who pulls data from whom (if they even do). Since HoCo nominally updates at 9 am and MD at 10, it’s possible that the MD number for HoCo reflects more than 24 hours of results.
This!
The state and county continues to change numbers posted for past days. Idk why they are so inept, but it’s probably because people arent fully working right now. Many government services are currently very unreliable.
What is more interesting to think about is if Maryland is having a problem, I have to imagine all the other states are having similar problems which makes daily nationally reported numbers questionable.
There is an error somewhere. Yesterday (June 13) the State reported 2371 in Howard County and today (June 14) they are reporting 2335. So counting the day before the spike to the present (4 days) the increase is 115 cases.
I just saw that and I have reached out for clarification on the numbers reported today.
The number of positive cases really doesn’t matter in my opinion (I’m a nurse who regularly screens, tests and takes care of patients). Positivity rate and hospitalizations are a much more significant metric (with hospitalizations being more important. My observation is that, I’m general, people aren’t getting as sick from the virus as in the beginning. Hopefully it’s weakening.
