Today is election day for the 2020 Primary in Maryland. The following locations will be utilized as Vote Centers in Howard County for the 2020 Presidential Primary. These locations will be open on election day Tuesday June 2, 2020 from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM for limited in-person voting. Secure ballot drop off boxes will also be provided at these locations beginning Tuesday May 19, 2020 and will be accessible 24 hours each day through Tuesday June 2, 2020.

There is also an additional ballot drop-off location in Howard County “If you want to drop off your voted ballot instead of mailing it, there are locations in each county where you can drop off your ballot. Take the sealed reply envelope with your voted ballot inside to a drop off location in the county where you live. The drop off locations will be available from Thursday, May 21st through Tuesday, June 2nd. Your ballot must be dropped off by 8 pm on Tuesday, June 2nd. 2020 Presidential Primary Election Ballot Canvass

The ballot canvass for the 2020 Presidential Primary Election will begin Thursday May 21, 2020 at 9:00 AM.

The Howard County Board of Elections will conduct canvassing of ballots for the 2020 Presidential Primary Election commencing on Thursday May 21, 2020 at 9:00 AM. The canvass is open to the public. You can join using Google Meets meet.google.com/fns-jxvo-fxg. You can join by phone at +1 413-679-2337 (PIN: 253 939 388). If the public has questions, simply state your name and the question. Either the Director or the designee will answer the question for you. To view the cameras during the canvass, visit our YouTube channel. Cameras will only be functional during the canvass. Please refer to the canvassing schedule below for dates and times.

The Board of Canvassers will meet from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM each day to vote on the acceptance or rejection of referred ballots, unless otherwise indicated.

So while we will get some election information tonight close races may not be decided until June 12th.


As of June 1st Howard County has a return rate for vote-by-mail ballots of 23.9%. The state of Maryland has a return rate of 22.8%.

  • 2014: Howard County 19.73% / State 20.71%
