The following was announced via Press Release on May 30th:

HOCO FOR JUSTICE; PEACEFUL MARCH AND VIGIL AGAINST WHITE SUPREMACY AND POLICE BRUTALITY

Calling for all organizers, allies, youth, residents, and non-residents of Howard County.

On Tuesday, June 2nd at 4pm Youth Collective will host “Hoco For Justice Vigil & March” to stand against white supremacy and mourn the lives of George Floyd and Tony McDade.

We are a collective of black and brown youth in the Howard County area seeking to publicly denounce and condemn white supremacy. On June 2nd, 2020, we will be gathering in solidarity to mourn the losses of George Floyd and Tony McDade whose lives were stolen at the hands of racism and police brutality. At 4 PM we will meet in the AMC Theater parking lot next to Shake Shack (at the Columbia Mall) and peacefully march in a distanced manner to the Columbia Lakefront (Lake Kittamaqundi).

We are calling for donations to be given to George Floyd Memorial Fund, Baltimore Ceasefire, Run With Maud, The Okra Project, Black Visions Collective, Until Freedom and Columbia Community Care. It is past time for Howard County to show up for Black lives. After the walk to the lakefront, there will be a vigil with programmed speakers and a moment of silence for the victims. Our organizers do not condone or support violence during this event.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we understand health concerns and are acting in compliance with social gathering laws as a deterrence from attendance to the event. We highly encourage individuals attending the vigil to wear a facemask. Volunteers will hand out masks to those who were unable to bring one. If you are unable to support our movement and vigil at the event directly, there are several ways to get involved and spread the word. We encourage all attendees to engage in a safe and non-violent manner and do not condone any violence or uprising as a collective.
