I received notification yesterday that I have been mentioned in a recent Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA) Request. Here are the details of that request:

HCPSS MPIA Request #2020-376

I would like all letters sent in the month of April between the Board of Education, the Superintendent, or any HCPSS staff; to or from the HCPSS Ethics Board, that include any references to and/or discuss “Ewart.”

Date Received: Apr 17, 2020

I did not submit this request. I have no clue who made this request (although some have sent me ideas who they think submitted the request).

I have a feeling (my best guess) this request is related to a past MPIA request: HCPSS MPIA Request #2020-229: Seeking a copy of a communication issued 11/21 from the Ethics Panel to the Board of Education.

I had received information about “communication issued 11/21 from the Ethics Panel to the Board of Education” prior to that information being released to the HoCoBOE. I reached out the the HCPSS Ethics Panel back in November to obtain additional details on the information that been sent to me via the blog in case I decided to write it up on the blog. My request for information generated the MPIA request 2020-229.

I will be very interested to see what information comes from this request and see if this is still being talked about today by the school system or the Board of Education.

Have you been mentioned in a HCPSS MPIA request? Many in the community have been over the past year. I am now part of that club.

  1. The requester information is also public information and can be requested itself. In fact, all MPIA requester’s names and emails can be requested by associated MPIA number, by year, if needed. I don’t understand why HCPSS doesn’t just put this up on the site. So easy. No mystery. It is almost as if they purposefully want to make getting to the data difficult – although the site was constructed to make getting to the data easier. Ironic and slick.
