Julie Hotopp has filed to run as a write-in candidate for Howard County Board of Education in District 4. Here is the listing on the State Board of Elections website: https://www.elections.maryland.gov/elections/2020/primary_candidates/gen_cand_lists_2020_3__by_county_14.html

As you can see from the listing as a write-in candidate she will only be participating in the General Election cycle and not in the upcoming Primary (on June 2nd).

Julie sent me the following information about her candidacy:

I am running as a write-in candidate because I add a different perspective than the other four candidates left in the district 4 race at this time. I have a background in science and education and the experiences necessary to make sound decisions for our school system. My goal is to increase transparency, accountability, and communication while advocating on behalf of our students and their families. My experiences with my own students and employees have demonstrated that humility and honesty are crucial, as is the ability to be forthright and pragmatic while thinking critically using solid data. These are challenging times with the new uncertainties arising from the current COVID-19 crisis, but also recurring fiscal issues and the need for recovery and healing after a tumultuous redistricting process. These are the essential traits we need in an effective board member at times like these.

The active candidates in the District 4 primary race include:

Two additional names will show on the District 4 ballot in the Primary:

Be sure to keep up with all of the candidates on the Scott E’s Blog HoCoBOE Election News page where you can get a listing of every candidate by district, links to the candidates website and social media channels as well as listen to podcast interviews with the candidates on Scott E’s Blog Podcast.

Once I have finished my podcast interviews with all of the candidates running in the HoCoBOE primary (or all that are interested) I may reach out to Julie Hotopp and candidates in District 1 (Christina Delmont-Small and Matthew D. Molyett) for additional podcast interviews prior to June 2nd. I have completed 11 candidate interviews of the 14 active candidates in Districts 2, 3, 4 and 5. you can listen to them all here:  https://scotteblog.podbean.com/
