There are a number of upcoming Howard County Board of Education candidate forums and events in the near future…and with all of the talk around “social distancing” in the news related to Coronavirus (COVID-19) should event organizers consider this with the upcoming events?
Yesterday morning this blog reported that “There are now over 1,000 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the United States” and now this morning that number is over 1,300 in the US. In Maryland we got notified that “The State of Maryland now has 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19“. Some of the other significant news that came out last night after I jumped offline:
- NCAA basketball tournament games will be played without fans watching in the arenas
- President Trump says he’s suspending travel from Europe to US, though citizens and others are exempt for the next 30 days
- NBA suspends season until further notice after player tests positive for the coronavirus
- Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson diagnosed with coronavirus
- Many TV shows with live audiences have announced they will not have a live audiences for tapings for a while.
Maybe the event organizers can look to live stream these events instead of having a live audience? Maybe the event just should be canceled (as many events are happening locally) to be safe.
I am not saying we should be in full panic mode with the latest updates…but maybe we should be taking precautions to keep everyone safe.
Just some thoughts on my mind this morning.
