Breaking: All Maryland public schools will be shut down between March 16-27

Announced in the press conference today held by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan: MD State Superintendent Karen Salmon: all Maryland public schools will be shut down between March 16-27.

Other items announced:

Major actions taken today in MD. in response to coronavirus:

— National Guard activated
— all events of more than 250 people canceled
— cruise ship terminal at Port of Baltimore closed
— no public access to State House
— all nonessential state workers to work from home

— all license, permit, etc. expiration dates extended
— no visits to state prisons
— Gov. Larry Hogan turning over oversight of state government to Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford so he can focus on coronavirus response.

More details coming after the press conference. I expect the HCPSS and the HoCoBOE will get out a statement later this afternoon.
