Week 1 in the XFL was fun and a better brand of football than many thought it might be this season. Here is a recap of the scores, standings and Scott E’s Blog Power Rankings after 1 week:

Scores and Highlights:

DC DEFENDERS 31 – SEA DRAGONS 19 (stats)

DC Defenders scored TDs on offense, defense and special teams to get their win in week 1.

HOU ROUGHNECKS 37 – LA WILDCATS 17 (stats)

Houston scored 5 touchdowns (4 passing touchdowns from Walker) and put on an impressive 2nd half to win week 1.

NY GUARDIANS 23 – TB VIPERS 3 (stats)

New York did not allow a TD and allowed the fewest yards in week 1 (allowing only 226 net yards to Tampa Bay) and looked impressive in their home opener.

STL BATTLEHAWKS 15 – DAL RENEGADES 9 (stats)

St. Louis got the big upset in week 1 over Dallas. St. Louis may have the best running game in the XFL as they put up 191 rushing yards in this game. Dallas was without their starting QB (L. Jones) and this may have contributed to their loss.

XFL Standings:

XFL Power Rankings after week 1 (via Scott E’s Blog):

CBS Sports did their preseason power rankings so I will start with that and update it after week 1 results:

1: DC Defenders (no change)

CBS had DC at number one and after an impressive week 1 victory I will leave them in that spot.

2: New York Guardians (+3)

New York jumps up 3 spots to the number 2 team in the XFL. Their defense was impressive and showed they can put points on the scoreboard.

3: Houston Roughnecks (+4)

Houston did not have a great first half in week one (especially on defense) but they turned it on in the second half and look to have an offense that will light up scoreboards this season.

4: St. Louis Battlehawks (+2)

St. Louis got the big upset and showed they can run the football. Look out for this team this season.

5: Dallas Renegades (-3)

Big disappointing opening day for Dallas. Landry Jones (QB) is expected to return next week and it will be interesting to see if that gets this offense on track.

6: Seattle Dragons (+2)

Seattle showed sparks of being a good team in week 1. They had some turnovers and mistakes on special teams that cost them the game but they were in the game vs DC and it was closer than the final score indicated.

7: Los Angeles Wildcats (-4)

Los Angeles was only down 1 point at half time but they did not come out to play in the second half. They must put 4 quarters together to be competitive this season.

8: Tampa Bay Vipers (-4)

CBS had the Vipers at #4 in their preseason ranking…but this team did not look good on Sunday by only scoring 3 points. They did a decent job running the ball…but the turnovers were game changers.

Here is the schedule for next week:

Stay tuned…Later in the week I will have a post for the various XFL league leaders in passing, rushing, receiving, tackles and sacks.
