More than 17,000 football fans attended the DC Defenders opening home game and got a heck of a performance from the Defenders watching them win 31 to 19 over the Seattle Dragons and go 1-0 on the season.

The defenders made touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams…not a bad way to start out the season.

Here are some notable DC Defenders items from the game:

Elijah Campbell blocked a punt and it was recovered in the endzone by Jonathan Celestin in the second quarter giving DC a 9 to 6 lead at the time. (see play)

Cardale Jones was impressive on Saturday with the following stat line (16-26 for 291 yards and 2 TDs with a QB rating of 125.6). His first touchdown of the day was a fun trick play that is must see TV for football fans (see play)

The DC Defenders used defense to score the final points of the game in the fourth quarter with this impressive pick 6 from Bradley Sylve (see play)

Here are highlights from the game from XFL YouTube channel:

Next weekend the DC Defenders are again home and will play the NY Guardians.

Scott E’s Blog will be a news source in Howard County for the DC Defenders. One of my goals is to attend a game or two (maybe I can use my “press pass” to cover a game…something for me to look into this season).

Stay tuned…I have other ideas for this season for the Defenders (maybe a get together for blog readers to watch the game at some location in HoCoMD). They look like they will be a fun team to watch this year and I am a fan.
