Noted via press release on January 28th:

The Maryland State Bar Association has endorsed Howard County Circuit Court Judge John Kuchno to retain his seat on the bench.  MSBA, a voluntary, non-profit membership organization, speaks for 24,000 Maryland lawyers and judges.

The State Bar Association’s endorsement noted that “the selection of judges must be dedicated to placing and retaining persons of the highest quality of character, integrity, judicial temperament and learning on Maryland’s bench.”  In announcing its support for Judge Kuchno, MSBA stated that “Maryland citizens are fortunate to have well-respected judges of the highest caliber.”

Judge Kuchno was gratified to receive this significant endorsement, stating that it “recognizes my experience, integrity, and knowledge of the law to remain serving as a Circuit Court Judge in Howard County.  Continuing my public service as a Judge is an honor I do not take lightly.  I will consistently focus on doing my job with integrity and impartiality to earn the support of Howard County voters and retain my position on the court.”

Governor Larry Hogan appointed Judge Kuchno to the court in December 2018, and he was sworn into office one year ago.  The appointment came after a rigorous evaluation process designed to assure the appointment of the most qualified and best suited judge to serve Howard County’s citizens.

Prior to his appointment, Judge Kuchno served as a Maryland Assistant Attorney General and previously was in private practice.  He earned his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from the University of Maryland and his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Since taking the bench, Judge Kuchno has traveled throughout the county to engage with community members. The primary election is set for April 28, 2020, and the general election will be held on November 3, 2020.  Judicial candidates appear on both the Democratic and Republican primary ballots.
