Someone online asked the question about upcoming campaign finance reporting schedules for candidates in 2020…so I thought this would make a good post this morning. Here is the schedule for candidates running for office (or those in office) to report their campaign finance transactions:
Report | Due Date | Transaction Beginning Date | Transaction Ending Date |
---|---|---|---|
2020 Annual Report | 1/15/2020 | All Transactions from the day following the ending transaction period from the last report | 1/08/2020 |
Pre-Primary Report 1 | 3/24/2020 |
1/9/2020 |
3/17/2020 |
Pre-Primary Report 2 | 4/17/2020 | 3/18/2020 | 4/12/2020 |
Pre-General Report 1 | 8/25/2020 | 4/13/2020 | 8/18/2020 |
Ballot Issue Report – for Ballot Issue Committees only | 10/9/2020 | 8/19/2020 | 10/4/2020 |
Pre-General Report 2 | 10/23/2020 | 8/19/2020 | 10/18/2020 |
Post-General Report | 11/17/2020 | 10/19/2020 | 11/10/2020 |
2021 Annual Report | 1/20/2021 | 11/11/2020 | 1/13/2021 |
We will get reports from everyone in office or that has declared that they are running in 2020 on January 15th. Those reports should make for some fun reading (for those into this stuff).
One thing to keep in mind…the filing deadline for the 2020 election is not until January 24th…so we may get candidates running in 2020 that will file to run after the campaign finance deadline. That means we will not see their first campaign finance report until March 24th. Ever wonder why candidates file late…maybe this has something to do with it.
I plan on writing the following articles: Big money providers to the Howard County Executive, Big money providers to the various Howard County Council Members and all finance reports for the candidates running for Howard County Board of Education in 2020. That is the plan as of this morning…so stay tuned.
