Yesterday our community was informed that an appeal of the Howard County Public School System Area Adjustment Plan was filed with the Maryland State Board of Education.
Here is a direct link to the appeal paperwork: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HFZMp4pd4eG_ZUalOSIYa5sT1yq3rrGM/view.
The appeal paperwork is 15 pages in total. The two named petitioners in the appeal are from polygons 132 and 1132. The attorney for the petitioners is Tae H. Kim (https://attorneytaekim.com/).
The conclusion statement of the appeal states:
“For the foregoing reasons, Petitioners respectfully request that the Maryland State Board of Education (1) find that the Attendance Area Adjustment Plan, approved by the Howard County Board of Education on November 21, 2019, is void; and (2) overturn the Attendance Area Adjustment Plan on the grounds that the Plan is arbitrary, unreasonable and contrary to sound educational policy”.
Let us not forget that there is a petition before the Howard County Circuit Court “Petition filed for immediate Injunction and Other Relief for OMA violation in Howard County Redistricting” relating to polygons 132, 1132, and 2132.
Also there is this “Howard County Board of Education admits violation of Open Meeting Act during redistricting voting” which is also related to polygons 132, 1132, and 2132.
Look for updates on the blog when the Maryland SBOE responds to this appeal.
