I like it when candidates hold campaign events here in Howard County. I like it even more when it does not cost a significant amount of money to attend those events to see and meet candidates. You get both today.

2020 Special Primary Congressional District 7 Candidate Kimberly Klacik (R) will be holding an event in Columbia today from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Here is a little bit about the event (from Facebook):

Please join Congressional Candidate, Kimberly Klacik, for her first Howard County Happy Hour. She would love to hear about your issues and concerns, along with what has been working well in your opinion. Lets be honest, less government is more. The more the government gets involved, the bigger the mess for we the people. The school redistricting is unacceptable, hear Kim’s proposal for the matter & voice your opinion.  See you at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center from 4pm-7pm. If you have any additional questions, email Kim Klacik, *Signs & shirts will be available for you to take home to show your support.

When: Today from 4:00pm – 7:00pm

Where: Sheraton Columbia Town Center | 10207 Wincopin Circle, Columbia, MD 21044

Cost: Free

I am not sure how much insight Kimberly Klacik can provide on the redistricting process Howard County went through (and still is kind of going through it) but it should make an interesting topic at the Happy Hour event.

Kimberly Klacik is one of eight Republicans seeking the Congressional District 7 seat in the upcoming special election. Other candidates include:

  • Anderson, Christopher M.
  • Arnold, James C.
  • Bly, Ray
  • Brown, Brian L.

  • Newton, William

There are also 24 Democratic candidates running in the special election:

  • Baker, T. Dan
  • Branch, Talmadge
  • Brown, Alicia D.
  • Carter, Anthony Sr.
  • Carter, Jill P.
  • Chullin, Matko Lee III
  • Cohen, Jay Fred
  • Costley Sr, Nathaniel
  • Cummings, Maya Rockeymoore
  • Davidson, Jermyn
  • Gonzalez, Darryl
  • Gosnell, Mark Steven
  • Grant, Leslie E.
  • Hiegel, Dan
  • Higginbotham, F Michael
  • Hill, Terri

  • Konka, Paul V.
  • Mfume, Kweisi
  • Petrus, Adrian
  • Rabb, Saafir A.
  • Smith, Charles U.
  • Spikes, Harry

I expect to see more candidate events here in Howard County over the next few months. I will do my best to track them all so that the blog readers have an opportunity see and meet the candidates when they are local.

  1. She is a Republican candidate from Middle River, not in the 7th district. I would say her interest in Howard County redistricting could be called opportunism.

  2. Does she realize that her event overlaps in its entirety with the Board of Education meeting–a board of education meeting that will includes “ratification” of redistricting? Seems a bit myopic.
