NEWS RELEASE: Elkridge man charged in nonfatal Laurel shooting; victim treated and released from hospital
Howard County police have arrested a local man in the nonfatal shooting that occurred in Laurel last night. Salvatore Sam Mancini, 34, of Washington Boulevard in Elkridge, was arrested at his residence overnight.
Mancini is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and the use of a handgun in a felony. He is still in the booking process.
Officers were called to the 9200 block of N. Laurel Road at 7:42 p.m. for a report that an adult female had been shot. The victim, Amanda Cavin, 38, of Washington Avenue in Severn, was conscious and alert at the scene and was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. She has since been treated and released.
Through preliminary investigation police believe a group of people, including Mancini and Cavin, who are known to each other, had gathered in the parking lot of Laurel Woods Elementary School for a remembrance ceremony that was not related to the school.
