Announced via press release:

County Executive Calvin Ball to Lay Wreath and Hold Vigil for Congressman Elijah Cummings

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and other Howard County leaders will gather for a vigil and wreath laying to honor the memory and legacy of the late United States Representative Elijah Cummings. The ceremony will take place at Congressman Cummings’s Howard County district office on Main Street in Ellicott City, in the same building as the old post office and current Visit Howard office.

“Our world, our nation, our state, and our county are all mourning the loss of United States Congressman Elijah Cummings, an incredible man of deep convictions, a dedicated public servant, and a trailblazing historic figure. As the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, he was one of the preeminent leaders of the nation. But for those of us in his district, he was always simply ‘our Congressman’ and we could not be prouder of him,” said Ball. “Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with Congressman Cummings’s family and, specifically his wife, Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings. He represented every one of his constituents with dignity, respect, and integrity. As a leader and a friend, he was always there for us. He was a fighter, and he was our fighter. All of Howard County, including myself, will miss him greatly.”

This is excellent and I hope I have the time today to attend it this afternoon. I have said this before and will say it again… Congressman Cummings was an ICON here in Maryland and he will be missed by many of us. I continue to send my prayers along to his family and friends.

  1. Wish we could join you but we have Friday night Sabbath dinners before services Fridays. Congressman Cummings was one of the great men of our times who helped shape our times. His moral leadership will be sorely missed.

  2. I’d like to echo Rabbi Grossman’s comments about Congressman Cummings who was an inspiration for so many people from a wide array of backgrounds. He was known and loved by people all over the Nation and his district for his work in the U.S. Congress. We were fortunate to have him as our representative for so many years and his legacy of justice, compassion and righteousness will live on in our memories and those of the generations of young people he inspired.
