News Release: Columbia shooting victim dies

Police were notified today that one of the victims in the Oct. 7 Columbia shooting, D’Marni Ware, 19, has died as a result of his injuries. The second victim, Jaiden Marquise Pender, 18, was treated at the hospital and released.

On Oct. 8, police arrested Tyquan Leondre Carter, 20, of Columbia, and charged him with attempted first-degree murder. With Ware’s death, detectives will coordinate with the Howard County state’s attorney’s office to address appropriate additional charges. Carter is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on no bond.

Investigators believe that the two victims met with Carter near Sea Shadow in Columbia to complete a drug deal. An altercation ensued and police believe Carter shot both victims before fleeing the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 410-313-STOP or HCPDCrimeTips@howardcountymd.gov.
