NEWS RELEASE: Police make arrest in Monday’s double shooting in Columbia

Howard County police have arrested a suspect in a double shooting Monday night in Columbia.

Tyquan Leondre Carter, 20, of Early Spring Way in Columbia, was identified as the suspect and arrested Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault, and related charges. He currently is going through the booking process.

At approximately 9:37 p.m. on Monday, police responded to the 9500 block of Sea Shadow for a report of shots fired. They discovered two male victims in a parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. D’Marni Ware, 19, of Columbia, remains in critical condition. Jaiden Marquise Pender, 18, of Columbia, was treated and released on Tuesday.

Through investigation, police believe that the two victims met with Carter to complete a drug deal. An altercation ensued and police believe Carter shot both victims before fleeing the area. He was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Baltimore.
