Announced via press release:
County Executive Calvin Ball To Report For Jury Duty
On Monday morning, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will report for jury duty at the Howard County Circuit Courthouse. The Circuit Court hears jury trials, juvenile, family law, serious criminal matters and complex civil matters. The Circuit Court also hears appeals from the District Court of Maryland, Orphans Court and Administrative Agencies.
“One of the foundations of our democracy, enshrined in our Constitution, is the right to be tried by a jury of your peers. Today, I am honored to exercise my civic duty by appearing for jury duty in Howard County,” said Ball. “As I prepare to visit our current Courthouse I am reminded that the building is almost two centuries old and simply not equipped to handle our larger population, increased caseloads, safety, and technology needs. We are building a new 238,000 square foot Courthouse with solar panels, a four-story atrium and a large entryway that will provide safety screenings. Construction has already begun through an innovative public-private partnership, and progress is made every day. We need to ensure the future of jury duty as well as seeking justice in our county will be safer, more sustainable, and will better deliver justice for all.”
