The following was posted on Facebook yesterday:
At approximately 11:40 am, units from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services were dispatched for a reported gas leak in the 8000 block of Tiber Alley, just off of Main Street in Ellicott City. HCDFRS arrived and located the gas leak on the second floor, prompting evacuations of 30 buildings in a 1500-foot radius of the incident. BGE was notified immediately and was able to secure the leak. Over 40 firefighters were called to the scene.
Main Street was closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic by the Howard County Police Department from Old Columbia Pike to the Baltimore County line for approximately 2.5 hours. Mutual aid was provided by Baltimore County Fire Department.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital for possible heat exhaustion. No civilian injuries reported. BGE remains on scene at this time.
