Information announced on Facebook by the Howard County Republican Club:
July 25 at Elkridge Library
6540 Washington Blvd, Elkridge
6:30 social time
7:00 – 8: 30 meeting
Guest Speaker: Larry Pretlow
Mr. Larry Pretlow II, candidate for board of education 2020 in Howard County will speak on his recent National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) battle with the United States Postal Service which spun from the failures of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) union. Mr. Pretlow was given a fake performance evaluation and then accused of reacting a certain way which was then used to terminate his employment.
On June 4, 2019 the NLRB ruled that no employer can give an employee an unlawful performance evaluation and use the employee’s reaction or conduct at the meeting to terminate that employee. (Read the case decision: http://apps.nlrb.gov/link/document.aspx/09031d4582c1f2b2 )
Larry is a proud father with a vested interested in Howard County for the long haul. In 2018 he ran for the House of Delegates in District 13. He received 3,110 votes in the Democratic Primary against an establishment slate. Larry declared his candidacy for the Howard County Board of Education to represent District 2 on April 30, 2019. He is the son of an educator and two U.S. Army Veterans and he currently serves on the Oakland Mills Village Board. Mr. Pretlow believes in faith, family and freedom for all citizens.
Currently Larry Pretlow is the only candidate to formally announce or file to run for Howard County Board of Education in 2020. Mr. Pretlow is running in District 2.
My guess is later this fall or winter other candidates will start to announce that they are running. Five current members of the HoCoBOE are up for re-election (Delmont-Small, Taj, Coombs, Ellis and Mallo). I am hearing rumors of other names considering running…but nothing official yet…so I will keep that to myself until it becomes official.
We are 283 days away from the 2020 primary (April 28, 2020) and it will be here before you know it.
