If you were watching Facebook at all yesterday afternoon you probably saw the Howard County Public School System 2019 Feasibility Report shared on that platform. I swear it seemed to be shared by everyone I know (OK…maybe I am over stating that fact). Redistricting of the schools system in Howard County is now moving forward.

You get 45 pages or so of background and some options for the future that include:

  • Two high school options
  • Two western options
  • Three southwestern options
  • Three Columbia options
  • An early plan for high school 13

The entire document is 170 pages…way to long for me to have read it all at this point. I did glance at it and it has some interesting stuff in it. HS 13 stuff is super interesting to me (and concerning for some in Elkridge). The map they provide for that plan seems off…or not well planned…but we are a long way from it being an actual plan. So don’t sweat it to hard yet…but be an advocate for change if you do not agree with it.

Be sure to give all of the plans a look here:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/15bVxj87l_iqKHFiy03NsOkRiR4fyi-gd/view

I personally look forward to the early discussions on June 13th at the Howard County Board of Education (HoCoBOE) meeting. We will have MANY more options and plans (that is my guess) so stay calm…it will be a long time before this is all flushed out.

Stay tuned…lots to come on this topic. If you have thoughts on the submitted options…let me know in the comments.
