It has been reported from numerous sources that “Maryland residents have been given a few extra weeks to become REAL ID compliant. A previous June deadline has been extended to July 3 for over 40,000 drivers” and “REAL ID DEADLINE IN MARYLAND EXTENDED“.
Back in May Scott E’s Blog reported “More than 66,000 Maryland residents are at risk of having their driver’s licenses or identification cards recalled in June“. It very much looks like MVA is extending this deadline because not enough people have done what is needed in order to protect their licenses…especially with statements like this I have seen in past emails: “Failure to present documents to an MDOT MVA branch by the date listed above will result in a cancellation of your Maryland driver’s license or identification card”.
I wrote up how easy my experience was with the process “My Federal Real ID Act Experience At Maryland MVA In Columbia“…in and out in 15 minutes. It was super easy.
Still not sure if you are required to turn in your documents as part of this…click on THIS LINK and enter your drivers license number…MVA will tell you. It really is that simple. If you are required…just follow the instructions and make an appointment online.
