Howard County Board of Education Adoption of the FY20 Operating & Capital Budgets on June 6th

The Howard County Council approved the county budget on June 29th…now we wait to see what the Howard County Board of Education (HoCoBOE) does with their final budget. Here is the scheduled upcoming meetings:

  • Monday, June 3, 4 p.m. – Public Work Session on FY20 Operating & Capital Budget Requests and FY21-25 Capital Improvement Program
  • Thursday, June 6, 4 p.m. – Adoption of the FY20 Operating & Capital Budgets and FY21-25 Capital Improvement Program

The school system picked up an additional $2 million in funding from the County Council above what the proposed FY2020 school system budget was from the County Executive….so the total funding they will receive from Howard County in 2020 will be: $607.2 million.

There has been lots of talk about increasing classroom sizes, removing teacher positions and other proposed cuts without significant funding increases. They did not get significant funding increases…so now what happens?

I am betting many in the county will be watching closely. I know I will.
