Howard County police are offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information about a shooting on May 18 in Columbia in which a bystander was shot in the leg.

At approximately 6:37 p.m. on Saturday, two men were involved in an altercation outside of the Sam’s Mart in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road when one man pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at the other. Investigators believe the intended target was not hit, but a man exiting the store was struck once. Kaylin Castle, 21, of Columbia, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is currently listed in fair condition.

Police do not know the identity of either of the two men involved in the altercation. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark-colored shirt and light-colored pants. Anyone with information may be eligible for reward money and should contact police at 410-313-STOP or HCPDcrimetips@howardcountymd.gov.

NEWS RELEASE: Police investigating non-fatal shooting in Columbia

Howard County police are investigating a shooting in Columbia in which a bystander was shot in the leg.

At approximately 6:37 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to the Sam’s Mart in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road for a report of a man shot. Preliminarily, police believe that two men were involved in an altercation outside of the store when one man pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at the other. Investigators believe the intended target was not hit, but a man exiting the store was struck once.

Police do not know the identity of either of the two men involved in the altercation. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark-colored shirt and light-colored pants. The victim, a 21-year-old from Columbia, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 911.
