Statement from ScottE on the Howard County Board of Education election in 2020:
The 2020 Maryland Primary Election is one year from today and I am concerned that no candidate has made a formal announcement on running for Board of Education in 2020. I ask you to please read my statement and the notice at the end of this article. Trust me…you will want to read it all.
As part of my process to consider becoming a candidate for the Howard County Board of Education (HoCoBOE) in District 3, I am forming an unofficial exploratory committee of close friends and advisors to review a number of issues related to a run for office in 2020.
This committee will be unofficial and will not be collecting any type of funds (that is covered) or other types of support at this time. The committee will focus on the field of candidates, what is happening with the current HoCoBOE and other factors before making a final decision.
Most importantly the committee will continue to review the fun slogan of “ScottE for HoCoBOE in District 3 in 2020”. While we all know a slogan itself can not win an election, I want a good one in the bank in case we decide to move forward.
With the Maryland Primary Election being one year from today…the committee will review the actions or opinions of other candidates on important issues that include (but not limited to):
- School Start Times
- School Safety
- Special Education
- Budget Priorities
- BYOD Policies
- High School #14
I am excited to see representation from all five councilmanic districts on the HoCoBOE after this election and especially representation in district 3 (the district I reside in today). The law championed by Delegate Atterbeary is great and I look forward to the implementation in 2020.
The 2020 Maryland Primary Election is one year from today and I hope to see some candidate announcements happen soon. There are 5 members of the Board up for reelection in 2020 (Delmont-Small, Taj, Coombs, Ellis and Mallo)…will they make a decision soon? I have heard some rumors about other candidates…but nothing official yet.
In my role as a community information blogger, I will continue to track the activities of all candidates on the following webpage on Scott E’s Blog: https://scotteblog.com/hocoboe-in-2020/. I highly recommend that you bookmark this page and check on it from time to time as updates relating to my committee and other candidate announcements will happen throughout the 2020 election. I have also added this page in the menu of this website titled “HOCOBOE ELECTION NEWS” to make it easy to find when you visit.
NOTICE: Those that know me know that I am NOT really going to run for Howard County Board of Education in 2020 (or any time in the future). I used this post to remind my readers and potential candidates that the Maryland Primary Election is one year from today and list out a few of the important issues facing candidates that will run in 2020. I look forward to the comments of those that only read the title or part of this article that think this is real. It should be fun to watch and read. Sometimes it is fun just to be a blogger.
